First-half goals from Wesley Sonck and Marouane Fellaini maintained Belgium's impressive start to FIFA World Cup qualifying with a 2-0 home win against Armenia.

Sonck opener
Going into the game level in second place in the section with four points from their first two Group 5 matches, René Vandereycken's team quickly set about making it seven from three. Sonck broke the deadlock from an acute angle midway through the first period and seven minutes before half-time Fellaini doubled the lead – there was no way back for Armenia.

Early pressure
An expectant crowd of 20,949 turned out at the Roi Baudouin Stadium and the home side responded with a blistering start. Armenia keeper Roman Berezovski was soon in action, denying Jan Vertonghen's long-range effort though he could do nothing on 22 minutes when Axel Witsel directed Jelle Van Damme's throw-in into the path of Sonck, who fired in.

Fellaini strike
Armenia reacted well to the setback, Arman Karamyan going close, but the game was effectively up when Fellaini made it 2-0 before the interval. Moussa Dembélé's initial effort looked innocuous enough but Fellaini intercepted it and made no mistake one on one with the keeper. It was the Everton FC midfielder's second goal in a week and he brought another good save from Berezovski early in second half, while Sonck was guilty of several misses as Armenia reverted to damage limitation.
