Yuri Patrikeev handily won his bronze medal match against his Swedish opponent to earn Team Armenia yet another bronze, the 2nd in Greco-Roman wrestling.

Patrikeev was a superior opponent in all of his matches, including the quartinal match where he lost to the eventual Gold Medal winner. Having been given a bye in the first round, Patrikeev would dominate his Egyptian opponent in the 1/8 round 12:1 to advance to the quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinals Patrikeev met the Cuban Mijain Lopez (the eventual Gold Medal winner) and would take the first period by scoring the last point of the period. Seemingly Patrikeev dominated the match, but the Cuban would score a controversial pin-down to end the bout. The Armenian team seemed puzzled by the decision and would have to settle for a place in the repechage, since the opponent that defeated him would go on to the final.

In the repechage round, Patrikeev would meet the Belarussian Sierhei Artsiukhin and would easily move through to the bronze medal match after dominating the first two periods, to face Jalmar Sjoberg of Sweden.

In the Bronze Medal match Patrikeev came out agressively and took the first period by pushing the Swede off the mat in the first minute. An even 1:1 tie after the second period would force a third and deciding period, when Patrikeev would take control and spin his opponent around for two points. In the last thirty seconds, Patrikeev would defend very well to earn to Bronze medal.
